Past & Present : Part 4
‘It’s nice weather, isn’t it Aquila?’ Celestia said brightly, in a failing attempt to make Aquila less depressed.
Celestia couldn’t help but miss the playful attitude Aquila had once possessed. Aquila gave a nod and tried to smile. In reality, she could no longer enjoy the pleasant day. Nothing looked like anything special anymore. It just looked gray. The warm sun seemed to burn her and the light seemed too bright.
Dusk held an awkward silence as they walked along. The problem was Aquila was nearly always in a bad state (which meant he couldn’t tell her anything slightly negative
Past & Present : Part 3
Cadence raced to her aunt’s room, but Celestia wasn’t there. She wasn’t at breakfast either. With increasing panic, Cadence galloped towards the main entrance to Canterlot. When she got there, she almost sent an orange-yellow unicorn filly flying.
‘Sorry,’ Cadence told her breathlessly.
The filly seemed more or less unaffected. She cleared her throat.
‘Princess Celestia has left Canterlot to meet a couple of visitors,’ the filly said, clearly having rehearsed it, ‘until she comes back it is strongly advised that no-pony leaves Canterlot. Rest assured that the Royal Gu
Past & Present : Part 2
Celestia looked rather embarrassed by Cadence’s lateness. Hawk Talons looked over at Cadence as she approached with some interest. Cadence thought he looked decidedly odd. His coat was comprised of at least three different colors, his legs looked like they could’ve belonged to two different ponies, his curved horn reminded Cadence of King Sombra, and, his face was ever so slightly familiar. She couldn’t help herself staring at him.
‘Cadence,’ Celestia exclaimed, ‘you’re almost ten minutes late!’
Cadence didn’t regret her actions one bit, but kind of wished she ha
Past & Present : Part 1
Cadence’s light hooves gently touched the mossy earth beneath them as she slowly walked down the path. The trees towered above her, and the track that was leading her on, although clear, had obviously not been used for some time. The forest undergrowth was more than beginning to eat away at it, and overgrown weeds were arching over it, making it unusually narrow in some places.
The green leaves rustled in a slight breeze, and Cadence suddenly became more aware of the basket in her dry mouth. It seemed uncomfortable, and a little heavy. In an instant, a raven’s cry could be heard from the sky above, causin

She was there. Just standing there, looking around a little edgily. What was she doing? He would find out, and more besides. Before Millie could stop him, Shining Armor had burst out of hiding, quickly followed by Joe, and rushed at Thora, who turned her head, gave a yell, and prepared to sprint. She didn’t get very far, however, before Shining Armor had leapt at her and pinned her to a tree. She looked pretty exhausted, and, Shining Armor realized, it wouldn’t take much to get answers out of her.
‘Is Cadence still alive?’ Shining Armor firmly asked the bedraggled looking Thora.
‘Prob

Cadence found herself tumbling out of the cage and onto the floor.
‘You’ve caused me a lot of trouble, Cadenza,’ the Empress snarled, ‘not only did you get away and ruin my plans for Equestria, but you also freed two of my souls.’
‘They were never yours to start with!’ Cadence, who had returned to her normal size, butted in.
‘Both of which were giving me a lot of power,’ the Empress continued savagely, ‘now I not only want your soul, Cadenza, I need it. But all in good time . . .’
‘Aren’t you going to do it now?’ asked a surprise

Cadence was glad she could finally relax a bit. Now that her mother’s soul was free, she didn’t have to worry about it. Maybe she was a bit too relaxed. The fact that three ponies had gone missing, two of them royal guards, barely seemed to bother her. She entered a shop.
‘Hi, Joe,’ Cadence called, ‘how’s business?’
Joe looked up.
‘Oh, hi Cadence,’ Joe replied, sounding slightly downcast, ‘yeah, business is fine. My aunt and uncle have been trying to help me out. Looks like things have been going well for you.’
‘Well, I’ve managed to g

Cadence’s instincts told her to keep struggling but the seaweed made things rather difficult. The seaweed itself was very strong. It had to be. The merponies were using it to drag her along. To Cadence’s surprise, they seemed to be heading in the direction she had intending to go. There was no point trying to get away until they strayed off her path, Cadence decided, not that she at all liked the idea of being taken to that kelpie. It was just typical that the kelpie in this lake was an evil one rather than a good one.
There was a clearing up ahead, and Cadence could see what looked like a sunken ship

Why hadn’t Cadence realized before? Her mother’s soul being underwater was so obvious now she thought about it, and Cadence was almost certain which area of water too.
Cadence tried her best not to let on to the others that she was in a major hurry. Once she had finally got back to Canterlot, Cadence rushed off while Steamer, Tex and Shining Armor weren’t looking.
The small river, Cadence knew, led to a lake hidden in the mountainside. Not many ponies would know about the lake. The Empress could have reached it without being spotted with relative ease, and now, able to fly again, Cadence could

Arachne and Lamia were standing by a rather unusual tree and must’ve’ been casting spells at it. They looked rather worn out and had obviously been at it for some time.
‘That the Tree of Harmony!’ Cadence spluttered and couldn’t help thinking that Arachne and Lamia were a bit out of their depth.
Still, she couldn’t allow them to continue their attempts to damage such an important plant. Besides, without the elements themselves, the tree would be weaker than it should be.
‘Stop trying to harm that tree!’ Cadence demanded, trying to ignore the grins on their
